Free Summer Fun 2023

Our summer programme activities from July - September, for the local community of Splott, Adamsdown and Tremorfa.

From Friday 21 July to Saturday 2 September  

This year we worked in partnership with local organisations and freelance artists to deliver a programme of summer fun for our local community! You could choose from a range of FREE holiday activities including circus, dance, parkour, arts and crafts to keep you and your family busy over the school summer holidays! Local organisations NoFit State Circus, Green Squirrel, Rubicon, Fluidity, Oasis and CCHA and artists Flow Maugran and Rachel Helena Walsh delivered this exciting programme of activity around the area.

Most of these sessions were drop-in, with a few that need booking in advance.

These free sessions were for the people of Splott, Adamsdown and Tremorfa, asylum seekers, refugees, and those in supported accommodation.

The summer programme took place in Splott, Adamsdown and Tremorfa (as well as one in Roath and one in Butetown!)

“Take Me With You” is a fun, creative, family friendly workshop exploring hope, happiness and kindness. You will be invited to fill a bottle with kind words, magical moments and things that make you smile. These will then be displayed at Gwledd Parc Feast where strangers will be invited to take a bottle home to open when in need.

Activity Afternoon with CCHA and NoFit State

14 August,  12.30pm - 2.30pm

CCHA Culture and Media Centre, Loudoun Square, BUTETOWN, CF10 5HW

An afternoon of fun for all the family with lots of exciting activities for all ages including circus skills with NoFit State.  

No need to book, just turn up!

Circus and Craft Workshop with NoFit State and Rachel Helena Walsh

31 August, 1pm - 3pm

NoFit State Community Circus, Four Elms Road, ADAMSDOWN, CF24 1LE

Come along to NoFit State for our family activity afternoon. There’ll be circus, craft and fun for all ages! Why not stay on for Oasis One World Choir’s song and movement session at 3pm? 

NoFit State’s circus trainers will be on hand to teach you some exciting circus tricks including hula hooping, diablo, tightwire, juggling, acrobatics and more…

Rachel Helena Walsh will be facilitating “Take Me With You”, a fun, creative workshop exploring hope, happiness and kindness. You will be invited to fill a bottle with kind words, magical moments and things that make you smile. These will then be displayed at Gwledd Parc Feast where strangers will be invited to take a bottle home to open when in need.

Singing and dancing workshop with Oasis one World Choir

31 August,  3pm - 4.30pm

An afternoon of music and movement with Oasis One World Choir. They will be sharing the new song they’ve written especially for Gwledd Parc Feast! Come along to learn the words and actions so you can join in on the day.

Glass Painting Workshop

Refugee and asylum seeker families are invited to join Oasis to transform recycled glass jars, cups, plates and vases into something beautiful to take home. All materials, as well as refreshments, will be provided.

Nature Tales with STAR Hub

Mondays 24 and 31 July, 7, 14, 21 and 29 August 3pm - 4pm

STAR hub, Muirton Rd, TREMORFA, CF24 2SJ

These nature inspired activity sessions will begin with tales of woodland wonders, deep sea divers, minibeast magic and our amazing planet Earth and end with creative arts and crafts activities linked to the characters and themes of the books. Come along and listen to fantastical stories about the world around you, learn new skills, and experience nature in amazing new ways.

Sunday Circus in the park with NoFit State

Join our amazing circus tutors for fun in the park! Learn some cool new circus tricks and try out different skills including juggling, hula hoops, tightwire, and acrobatics. You do not need any previous experience.

Try out Parkour with Fluidity

Try out Parkour - Join the Fluidity Freerunning crew to try out parkour. Their fully qualified coaches will take you through some basic moves in a safe and supportive environment. From precision jumps to wall runs, the team will guide you through exhilarating challenges, fostering teamwork and fun for all ages. Unleash your inner ninja!

Activity Afternoon - Fun for all the family with different exciting activities each week in Tremorfa Community Hall. These will include a series of mask making workshops with Flow Maugran using recycled materials to make masks for the Gwledd Parc Feast Parade!

Costume Making and Art Workshop

28 July, 4, 18 and 25  August, 1 September 10.30am - 12.30pm

Parkminster United Reformed Church, Minster Rd, Cardiff, ROATH, CF23 5AS

Aurora Trinity Collective are running free creative weaving workshops for women* every Friday from 21 July through to 1 September at Parkminster United Reform Church Minster Road, Cardiff, CF23 5AS. Sessions are from 10:30 - 12:30, everyone is welcome and all materials are provided. Children are also welcome. Under five-year-olds will join in with Welsh Refugee Council’s creative play session. 6 - 13-year-olds can take part in mask and puppet making workshops. *Our sessions are held-spaces for women, including trans women, intersex people and non-binary people who relate to the experience of being a woman in some way. Our space is safe and inclusive, and nurtures friendships and bonds. Children of all genders are welcome. 
 
These events are supported by Aurora Trinity Collective, Artes Mundi, Welsh Refugee Council, Trinity Centre and The Square Mile Collective
